If they were skilled they wouldnt b changing oil for a living.Would you consider the guy who works in the pits of an automobile oil change quick stop a real mechanic?
unskilled, but he may know more than we think!!
Unskilled. I'm not sure what semi-skilled is, but I'm sure an oil change wouldn't even be half skilled. Anything you can learn to do in 30 minutes couldn't be anything but unskilled.
well it depend on what he knows
If all he does is change the oil he is unskilled
If he know how to take apart a carb and put it back together...he is skilled
maybe not a five compared to a tech at like a dealership, but he has the most important job in the oil change business.
I would say unskilled to semi-skilled, but in no way a real mechanic. Real mechanics are ASE certified and are able to diagnose as well as repair vehicles.
This is just MY opinion... I took a job at wal-mart tire %26amp; lube a few years back just to keep the bills paid after the mechanic shop i worked at shut down when the owner died. I have been a mechanic for 15 years! Once i found a good position i went there hope this helps
Unskilled because it takes no serious training and they can be easily replaced with little or no notice.
Well its a job that requires some mechanical skills. It may or may not be a measure of the full capabilities of the fellow doing it. He may be a master mechanic that just needs work right now. He may be a high school kid who just needs money and has few skills. Or he may be something in between.
He may also be a concert pianist. He may be working on a graduate degree in 18th century English literature. He may be the sole support for his ailing mother, or wife and two children.
I guess what I am saying is that what he does to earn money does not necessarily define what his place in this world is, let alone what he aspires to become.
Back when I was in college, I worked at a grocery store. One fellow I worked with was picking up some extra money because his day job as a research biologist for the USDA did not pay well enough to provide for his family. I admired his industry and humility for taking on work that obviously did not draw very heavily upon his intellectual capabilities.
I might suggest that the fellow under the car might have greater substance to him than is immediately apparent as well. He may also be possessing of hopes and dreams that his work in the pit is subsidizing.
you can't simply write these ppl off. its a starting point for many. So from 0 to 5. 0 being a complete idiot in the automotive industry, I would lable them with a 2.
