Does a thin layer of biodegradable oil help stop or lower the rate of evaporation of water?

I would like to know if a layer biodegradable oil on top of water lowers or stops the water's rate of evaporation. I would also like to know what are some biodegradable oils e.g. banana oil.Does a thin layer of biodegradable oil help stop or lower the rate of evaporation of water?
I don't know how to answer that because even I don't try the thing, Maybe by the time I already experience that I can say something.

Example of biodegradable oils: coconut oil, palm oil, olive oil, oil from fats of pigs.
