I can only think that you may have a faulty oil pressure switch.
I assume the lights remain on?Berligo multispace,my oil and stop light on the dash keep comming on when i start the car can someone help?
All the dash lights have a ';bulb check'; done when you turn the key to on but not all the way to start. That's so you can make sure none of the bulbs are burned out and work ok. But if the red oil light stays on or comes on at any time while the engine is running, your owner's manual instructs you to seek immediate service or you may damage your engine. In the repair shop the technician will hook a shop oil pressure gauge and read your oil pressure at hot engine idle. If the oil pressure is ok, he will probably change your oil sensor switch that makes your oil light come on.
There are a couple of things to check, is the light in question the oil pressure light or the oil change light (If fitted). If its the oil pressure light does it come on only when you start the engine in the morning or is it all the time. The oil pressure light is used to show if the pressure in the lubrication system falls below the required level. Most people think that the oil pump produces the oil pressure, this is not true the oil pressure is produced by the engine main bearings. As a result if there is wear in the main bearings the oil pressure light will come on.
The simple test for this is to rev the engine, if the light goes out when the engine is at high reves but comes back on at idle then there is a problem with the mains.
If however the light stays on or comes on at different speeds then there could be a problem with the oil pressure switch.
Does your Berlingo have a petrol engine with a paper element type oil filter (the type where you remove the black plastic top to access the filter?) If so, remove the filter and look down the centre of it, there should be a plastic cross in the centre, if this isn't firmly attached to the filter body at all 4 points the one way valve on the engine that sits in the centre of the filter will always remain open and the switch won't register oil pressure. The only solution is to replace the element, with preferably a genuine Citroen part.
