How important is it for us to stop depending on other countries oil?

Not very. We don't grow all our own food; we import many other materials critical to our daily life and to industry; why should oil be any different?

It is, however, very important for us to reduce our dependence on oil, just because it is going to either run out or become extremely expensive in the future.

Note that oil prices for oil from U.S. wells is the same as that from the Middle East, etc. So it isn't a case of domestic vs. foreign - just cheap and readily available vs. being a scarce resource.

(BTW, when people try to scare you about the power of the Middle Eastern countries to cut off our oil supplies, you can note that most of our imported oil comes from Canada and Mexico:

We do import from Saudi Arabia and Venezuela too, but not as much as from our neighbors.)How important is it for us to stop depending on other countries oil?
VERY Important!!

We need to start doing some ExTREME Reasurch in Hydrogen Fuel Cells.

The only reason we don't have any in Production, is because of the Limited Capacity of Electricity a Hydrogen Fuel Cell can hold (for right now).

A Hydrogen Fuel Cell Prototype can only Travel UP TO 100 Miles. And its Very Expensive, until it gets into MASS Production!!

But realy, we should STOP Depending on Other Coutries for Oil, and REALY Start drilling for Oil HERE, and in Alaska.

At the Same time, we can Slowly get rid of our Dependance on Gasoline. Yes, we NEED oil: Even if we go to Hydrogen Fuel Cells, we STILL need Oil to Lubricate the Engine, Transmition, and other Components.

But that's a HECK of Alot Less oil that we would need to consume, on a Regular Basis.
