Why would changing the Intake Gasket on a 1984 corvette stop a oil leak?

that depends where the oil leak is. on a v-8 motor the intake has four gaskets, one on each cylinder head to intake sides and one at end of intake to engine block. the side gaskets are for coolant and port passages, but the end gaskets are to block oil. most intake gaskets come with rubber end gaskets. i would not use them due to most squeeze out and leak again. my prefered method is to have everything clen and dry. then use a good quality r.t.v. silicone sealer. apply a continous 1/4 to 3/8 bead along the front and rear sealing areas. lightly apply a thin film around each water port on each head sides. if done right the silicone should be slightly squished around the intake when bolted on. let the silicone set up b-4 starting motor. also check to see if the motor has blow by creating pressure inside forcing oil out. if it does ya might consider a rebuild. Why would changing the Intake Gasket on a 1984 corvette stop a oil leak?
Because Chevrolet could never get the end seals to work worth a dam, it took the aftermarket gasket people to come up with something that actually stays in place, and the mechanics of the world to just use a bead of RTV and throw the stinking end seals away. Why would changing the Intake Gasket on a 1984 corvette stop a oil leak?
It wouldn't normally

Is your intake gasket at the carb. on the manifold (no way that would stop any oil leak); or

at the intake manifold where it bolts to the block (its posible that a long bolt thru the manifold and into the block also tightens up something else in there.. but I don't remember that as being the case.

If someone is telling you this then they may also be referring to simply tighting up everything else (valve covers, heads, etc..) while the intake manifold is off.

??????????

not enough details in your question to do more then second guess at this point.
yes a bad intake gasket can cause a leak this is a fairly common problem on a small block Chevy

there are two rubber gaskets that seal the intake manifold to the block their job is to keep the oil in the lifter valley from pouring out i know a lot of people who will not use the rubber gaskets when they leak instead they clean the mating surfaces real good and use a high temp silicone like the Grey rtv your local parts store can tell you whats best for your application
on a gm v8 the intake has two oil seals on the front and back of the intake
