I ran out of oil, and my car started to stop running. The oil and battery light came on. Is car wrecked?

The steering also started to stop working. I was only going 20 mph and stopped right away. Is the car probably ruined?I ran out of oil, and my car started to stop running. The oil and battery light came on. Is car wrecked?
there is a chance that a oil pressure sensor turned your car off before seriuos damage was done since you were going slow. and it stopped right away. but if it runs after putting oil in there will still be some damage and it will be a matter of timeI ran out of oil, and my car started to stop running. The oil and battery light came on. Is car wrecked?
It's hard to know for sure without looking at the car. Anytime your car dies the oil and battery light will come on, just like if you turn the ignition on without starting the car. The power steering will also quit working as it requires the engine to be running to power the pump. If you ran out of the majority of your oil and continued to drive the engine quickly will seize. This would result in a fairly sudden stop. This would require a new engine so you would have to evaluate how much the car is worth.
As you can see, lots of people loved to answer this question, because this is about the easiest one to answer YES to.

But it is true, about the guy who asked, HOW do you know you ran out of oil?

But when the engine dies, even if you just turn off the ignition, the oil and batty lights will still come on (when ignition is turned to 'start', not 'off' position). Same thing happens when you turn on car to first key position, ';on';, because you're turning on the electrical system, not the engine. But when the engine dies, if the ignition is still turned on, then the warning lights come on.

Continuing to run an engine without oil is the easiest and MOST OFTEN way of destroying an engine. The motor oil is SO CRITICAL to keeping an engine running, that it will quickly seize up or freeze up without enough oil.

So IF YOU'RE SURE that you had no oil in car, then you probably did some damage to it. But it might not be bad enough to completely ruin it. Look at everyone else's suggestions. They're very good. Especially the one about the guy who says to get another car there, jump it, add oil to it, to see if engine will move and stay moving. See if it's something else that's stopped the car.

If it is the engine, it'd be best to get rid of it, unless it's a fairly new car. Then my question is, why did you run out of oil???????????
How do you know you ran the car out of oil? Did you know it was on it's last drops, and then just kept going till it died? Is your only indication of running out of oil the light coming on when the engine died? I would go back to the car with another car and jumper cables. Check the oil first thing. Since the engine has not had time to warm up the oil should come up to at least the full line. If you have no oil at all arrange to have the car towed. If you do have oil ( add to reach full line if necessary, try to start it. If it turns over the engine is basically okay. You just have to figure out why it stalled. You obviously don't do much maintenance so you should check your fuel filters first.
Top it up with oil,remove the spark plugs and pour a little oil down the plug holes onto the top of the pistons and see if you can turn the engine over by hand.If so put the spark plugs back in and try to start the engine.If it turns over but fails to start remove the plugs and clean them and refit them and try again
try one of two things putting oil back in to the block and try starting it again to get the oil to cycle through it again. if it doesn't run then your engine may have seized up and if it has seized up on you then yes it is wrecked
so now add fluids now check fluids would be cheaper to check before you drive not after it stops running that minute it takes to open hood might have cost you a 1000 bucks or more and theres on one reason for it lazy
Suggest you should have heard some serious engine knocking and other strange engine noises If indeed you ran it out of oil.
If you drove your car with no oil, there is a good possibility that your engine has seized. So unfortunately I think your care is pretty much done for.
depending on how far u drove the car. if u say it stopped on u then im pretty sure u seized it. but dont worry u can always swap engines with a faster car. roooooom roooooom rooooooom. =%26gt;
