My car dashboard says ';low oil pressure..stop engine.'; What is causing this. My oil reading is 40%.?

It still sounds normal and rides the same. Anyone know the problem. 95 cadillac deville. ';Low oil pressure...stop Engine'; It also has a reading of 40% oil left. Any clues? What should I do? Will my car die?My car dashboard says ';low oil pressure..stop engine.'; What is causing this. My oil reading is 40%.?
put some oil in it you clown!

low oil pressure is a direct result from low oil level. 40% at rest probobly = 20% at idle and 0% and 3k rpm.

yes it will root the engine if you run it with no oilMy car dashboard says ';low oil pressure..stop engine.'; What is causing this. My oil reading is 40%.?
You tell us. It's your car. It's either got low oil pressure or it doesn't. The best way to do this for yourself is to install a mechanical gauge where the current oil pressure signal is coming from. See if the mechanical gauge agrees with the light. If that sensor is used to turn the fuel pumps on, then you'll have to have both on at the same time, with a tee, to do the test.

You could replace the sensor just as a shot in the dark. Your choice there.
Next time before you drive check your oil and see how low it is. And add as much oil as needed don't overfill it. When the dipstick says full or safe or safe operating range somewhere along those words then your set. And yes your car will end up needing a new engine if you run it without any oil. This is the second time this happened to someone on here and the other person it happened to now needs a new car or engine so be lucky your car has all those extra gadgets that warn you when the oil is low. All you need to do is check the dipstick once in a while when its cool is that so hard to do.
NO IT'S FINE, KEEP DRIVING.
Oil pressure and life are two different things the oil pressure could be low due to no or very little oil or sensor problem the oil life is actually set by mileage and does not actually measure the oil at all its just a reminder mechanism. check the oil and if the oil is okay have a technician check it out to find out the problem
It could be one of two things your oil sending unit is bad or your oil pump is weak. to fix this start by changing the oil sending unit if that don't fix it change the pump and remember to use a new oil filter. good luck with that.
sounds like you have a northstar engine have the oil sending unit and the oil pump checked by a professional and then get a second oppinion it could also be that the oil pressure gage has a clog in it . top off the oil run the car until the thermostat opens at like 180 degrees f and see if it goes away first though.
