I have 98 dodge caravan with 18,000 miles on it. Recently my oil light comes on any time I come to a stop after the van is warmed up. Recently I put too much oil in when I checked the oil. Could that have done anything. I just got the oil changed and thought that would take care of it but it didn't. Any ideas what could be wrong.Oil light keeps coming on when idling at a stop light?
Very common on chrysler vehicles......First thing I would check is the oil pressure sensor...they will allow oil to bleed through the sensor and that will cause the symptoms you described. I have ran across this many many times and the sensor(may be called oil pressure switch or sending unit) doesn't cost very much. If you actually had an oil pressure problem, Im sure you would be asking about an engine noise and not just the light.Oil light keeps coming on when idling at a stop light?
First thing to do is to locate your engine's IDLE AIR CONTROL VALVE. This gizmo is supposed to control idle speed. If it is dirty, it can't do it's job, and the idle may be so low as to trigger the oil light from low pressure. It is also possible that your engine oil is the wrong one for your engine. The right oil will clearly state on the container, ';designed for use in Chrysler cars,'; or ';engineered for use in Chrysler vehicles';. Just because you put in 10W-30 doesn't mean it is the correct oil for your car. There is a gizmo in your oil pump called an oil pressure relief valve. If it gets stuck with sludge, it can't move the way it should. You should de-sludge the engine and use the appropriate Mobil One oil, or Amzoil, or even ELF oil. Change it once a year. Forget the other oils!
I hope you left out a zero in the mileage and you meant 180,000 miles on it or maybe 108,000 miles on it.
It could be just the oil pressure switch wearing out and it needs to be replaced.
It could be that the engine hasn't been properly maintained and now there is excessive clearance between the rod and main bearing in relation to the crankshaft. The rod and main bearings are worn to the point that the oil pump's output cannot keep enough lubrication between the bearing and the rotating metal surface.
Take the vehicle to a reputable mechanic and ask to have the oil pressure checked with a manual pressure gauge. If the pressure is within limits, just replace the oil pressure switch and all should be good.
If the oil pressure is lower than normal at idle, there are several options for you to keep the vehicle in service that should be explored.

you now have what you call an external oil leak this can be caused by overfilling the oil when the pressure builds up it can cause the gaskets to blow open. maybe you are leaking oil start the car let it warm, and take a glance underneath is oil dripping out if it is this could be the source of the light.

Its been seeping out for 67 years from the bottom of Pearl Harbor, how long will it continue?When will oil stop seeping out of the U.S.S. Arizona?
The Arizona leaks about a quart of oil a day into Pearl Harbor. Since know one knows precisely how much fuel was aboard when she sank, or how much fuel was burned in the explosion, no one can say precisely how long she will keep leaking oil. But there is a tradition among the survivors of Arizona that she will continue leaking oil until the last survivor has died.When will oil stop seeping out of the U.S.S. Arizona?
Short answer is until there is none left.
To calculate you would have to know the answer to far too many variables; such as how much there is, how big the holes are, temperature variations, if new holes will appear...
No matter what it will be a very long time indeed.:)

try all natural Palmer's cocoa butter it smells nice and is natural and it work great for my son's craddle cap

None of the other procucts we tried helped (Johnson's, Aveeno, etc.) We've been using vaseline for about a year now. Put it on right after a bath. I've started using it on my 4 year old for his winter dry skin lately and his has also almost cleared up.
We got a prescription for our daughter's cradle cap, but I found that a good dollop of olive oil rubbed into the scalp and left for 10 - 15 minutes with a cheap cotton hat (to protect your clothes and furniture) and then combed out with a fine tooth comb before a shampoo worked best.
My son has very sesitive/dry skin and I used Johnson's Baby Sorbolene Cream and this does the trick.
Johnson's lotion and oil both dried out my baby's skin. I use Hamilton's Wash to clean her hair and body and I massage Alpha Keri Oil into her skin after a bath. I read the ingredients of any product I use and avoid anything containing 'sulphates' (any of them) and 'mineral oil' as they can dry and irritate the skin.
My doctor also suggested that I shouldn't give my baby a bath every day as excess washing can dry out the skin. Topping and tailing on other days is sufficient to keep her clean.
The johnsons lotion actually made my bubbys skin drier, i think it may be because she has sensitive skin and the fragrance in the johnsons lotion. I brought a organic baby lotion designed for dry skin, and it worked really well. Her skin cleared up very quickly.

I had an Acura that did the same thing,just because you have oil in the engine doesn't mean everything fine.You need to have a direct oil pressure reading off the oil pump to see what it really is.As the bearings in the engine wear out the pressure drops and it can cause engine failure.So my advise is to see if its the pump,a bad indicator or computer problem,or the engine bearings are going bad.Good luck.
low oil pressure does not mean low oil level, it means that there isn insufficient oil being pumped around the engine. it is possible that the sendor that turns the light out when the engine starts is dodgy or it could be the quality of the oil or the age and viscosity of the oilor it could even be the oil pump failing, if it goes out when you rev it then id put my money on the oil being too thin, certainly have it checked immidiately as low oil pressure will completely trash the bottom half of the engine and if you keep driving it it can even trash the top half too

That is a good symptom of your oil pump starting to go. Have it checked before you really damage your engine.
