Auto pros: How do I stop a oil leak?

It's driving me crazy: I was told by the guy who changes my oil that there's a slow leak in the front of the engine. How can I fix it before it gets to be a huge problem? What can I do? Please help! Thanks.

If it's just the oil pan gasket, it might just need tightening or replacement at worst.

If it's the main bearing seal on the crankshaft, that would be considerably more expensive.

In either case, if it's ';slow';, and your budget is tight, just keep checking the oil level at least once a week until you get a feel for how much oil the engine is losing.

Leaving it un-fixed will only become a huge problem if you run out of oil, or if someone slips on the oil slick in your driveway and sues you, or if you have a landlord or neighborhood association that complains.Auto pros: How do I stop a oil leak?
duct tape.
You stop it by taking it to a mechanic. It's probally something simple, but the oil change place probally isnt equiped to fix your problem, just change oil.
nothing you can do yourself. need a mechanic and lots of money.
Normally there is a gasket that needs changing or a loose bolt that needs lightening. You will have to take it to a goo9d mechanic to know which one you need. I would suggest you take it to the dealer and have them to check it for you. Ask the price before you tell them to check it of fix it either one.
go to another mechanic. it's probably coming from the oil pan which usually means you need a new gasket.
I guess this is a 97 ford

budget minded as we all are ; As long as its not pouring out, just SNUG the bolts and as long as its not loosing more than a quart from oil change - to oil change, leave it alone, all engines 5 years old or older leak a little oil !!!
You take it to your mechanic and he changes the seal or gasket that is bad and allowing oil to leak past.
Wait til it runs out of oil and it won't leak any more. Failing that get a new sump gasket.
