What good are concept cars, nothing ever happens with them. I want something done now for us to stop oil.?

Do we have to wait for China to come up with REAL cars that run without gas? Are we Americans so stupid? Vehicles could already be on the roads if bigger profits for the conglomerates were the motivator. They won't give up the golden goose as long as it lays! What good are concept cars, nothing ever happens with them. I want something done now for us to stop oil.?
Yeah, i've been seeing these ';concept cars'; for years now. Ones that run on Hydrogen or solar or Electric. But they're always years away.

Invalid High school dropouts are making these things now out of spare parts in their garages. and these multi billion dollar industries are stumped? It's all oil. Oil corporations have hundreds of billions to spend solely on Lobbying the government to keep cars running on gas.

Even the Chevy volt was originally an all electric car that performed better and faster than the Tesla, now it's been dumbed down to a plug in hybrid, and by the time it comes out (if that ever happens) it'll probably be just an average hybridWhat good are concept cars, nothing ever happens with them. I want something done now for us to stop oil.?
Most concept cars would never pass the safety laws. I recently saw one with no rear window and no side view mirrors. Some near-production concepts will make it into the market - the Volt (in some form), the Honda Hybrid, the plug-in Escape, the next generation of Prius, and I hope the Toyota A-BAT truck.
Try looking at:

You can currently reserve one in California, and they are hoping to expand and make it available to every state in the U.S. within the next few years.
Sounds like U have a job, get it done.
Only Commute to work cars need to be electric. Long distance vehicles could still be Hybrids or Gas. When we reduce the amount of gas we use the price of oil will drop.

OPEC dropped it's price big time when they thought Carter was going to get America to reduce oil dependency. Also Semi Trucks and other High horsepower needs would still be Gas or Diesel. Check out www.phoenixmotorcars.com for a normal looking battery car I wish would be adopted by the major car makers.
the primary benefit of concept cars is to get people to come to shows and showrooms, and therefor look at cars they can buy now.

i'm still waiting for a car like the Jetsons had.
Yes, it seems like American auto manufacturers are just stalling on the whole electric car thing.

I guess we are going to have to wait for like Toyota to build battery-electrics.

The good news is, I think the CAT is coming out pretty soon!

:D .... : (

compressed air cars are stupid...
What we ned is someone out there to come up with something and Blab it all over the Internet. Come on where are you doers.
people don't realize how hard change is without a catalyst. yes electric cars are all well and nice but think how difficult the transfer from gas to electric will be. First off the oil companies will have to lay off tons of employees, second although there will still be petro powered vehicles thousands of mechanics will lose their jobs. Yes new jobs will be created but the fact is electric powered cars require less maintance and consume less. In todays society money is god and simply put electric cars are not as nearly profitable as petro.
';Vehicles could already be on the roads if bigger profits for the conglomerates were the motivator. ';

Bigger profits ARE the motivator. Do YOU have a ';concept'; car? Why not? They're out there. They're available.

When in business, you give the people what they want. People don't want dinky, lightweight golf carts or scooters with no heat or AC.

Why build it if you can't sell it?
run without gas?? ur a crackpot...and ur nuts if u think china does anything more then copy [steal] others designs
I agree somewhat. Why is we had cars in the 80's that got over 50MPG, but can't now?. One was gas (Honda), and one was diesel (VW). Europe right now has thousands and thousands of low cost simple diesels on the road getting over 50 MPG. Why is it the best we are doing is a very complex and expensive Hybrid that gets less (Prius is rated at 45MPG)?

Could it be us? The cars are there. Could it be the manufacturers can't sell them here? Is it because we spoiled Americans just want bigger and faster? Naaa, lets blame the corporations, it must be them.
