Why does my 98 jeep cherokee lose oil pressure when I come to a stop?

When I'm driving, the oil pressure goes back to normal. When I slow down and stop, it dips REALLY low. I can't seem to figure it out. Obviously I'm concerned about engine damage but don't have to dough to take it to a shop just yet.Why does my 98 jeep cherokee lose oil pressure when I come to a stop?
two possiblities here, 1). you could have a oil pump going bad.

2.) you could have rod and main bearings wore out of clearence.

Either the oil pump can't produce enough pressure at lower RPM's or the bearings are loosing the pressure. Either way, I would drop the Oil pan and replace both, probably time for it anyways! Why does my 98 jeep cherokee lose oil pressure when I come to a stop?
How many miles on it? If you have high miles, consider a step up in viscosity. If you're using 5W30, go to 10W30. Keep up on your oil changes, 3mo/3000mi. Try a good engine treatment like Lucas or Slick50.

If that doesn't help, change the pump.
IT MAY BE TRUE THAT IT IS TIME FOR YOU TO REBUILD YOU ENGINE, HOWEVER, I HAD AN OLD TRUCK WITH THE SAME PROBLEM AND DONE SOME CHECKING, I WAS TOLD THAT IF I HAD AS MUCH AS 12LBS OF PRESSURE THAT IT WAS OK, JUST WATCH OUT FOR OVER HEATING. I DROVE FOR ANOTHER YEAR BEFORE I REBUILT MY ENGINE, WHICH I DO BELIEVE IS WHERE YOU ARE HEADED SOME WHERE DOWN THE ROAD.
try replacing the oil pressure sending unit
I noticed that no one said that it could be your oil pressure regulator. It uses a spring and a piston that adjusts to the RPM of the engine, if the piston gets stuck or the spring is broke, it would cause the pressure to drop off as you suggested, as well as the bearing ware that michael081278 suggested.

You can put 20W 50 motor oil in and see if the pressure comes up at idle, if not I would check the pressure regulator next then the oil pump before replacing main, rod and cam shaft bearings.
You have received a good bit of good advice here as to the various possible problems--some as simple to fix as the pressure regulator, and others more complex and expensive, like new crank shaft bearings, although there is even a quick and dirty way to replace those without committing to an engine rebuild.

However, if you have even as much as 15 pounds of pressure at idle, it is probably sufficient, so long as it does climb significantly when your RPMs rise. I should hope to see something around 60-75 pounds at highway speeds.

What could cause low oil pressure/stop engine on my 1995 cadillac deville?

It only does this when it`s at idle in gear.Have an oil change every 3000 miles. could it be the oil pump? Please helpWhat could cause low oil pressure/stop engine on my 1995 cadillac deville?
I own a shop, and think this; You may just have a bad sending unit. Since the oil pressure switch works both the oil pressure gage as well as the fuel pump safety circuit, it can cause this condition. Replace the sending unit, and clean out the hole the sender screws into, to make sure its not plugged up enough to cause this. It could in fact be a bad oil pump not keeping the pressure up, or the engine bearings have worn so thin that the pressure is escaping by them, and not keeping the engine pressure up enough at idle speed. Too thick of oil may do this, or too thin of oil if the engine has a lot of miles on it. I would have the pressure tested at the port where the sender installs, and if its low, then you must find out why. Being low on oil will also do this.

Glad to help out, Good Luck!!!What could cause low oil pressure/stop engine on my 1995 cadillac deville?
Low oil pressure even if its full of oil, could be a weak oil pump

Which on this old of car is normal.
could be the guage hook a mechanical gauge directly to the sender. I had a new autometer electric gauge on my truck and found that the gauge was off 15 pounds. Check the motor when cold if the pressure drops after its warmed up its probably a bearing problem. I dont think thats to uncommon for a older motor to lose a little pressure. Just make a note of what your old gauge is reading both warm and cold at idle before you unhook from the sender and compare to the mechanical gauge.
Low engine idle can cause this problem. If the light goes off when in neutral or when the gas pedal is pushed have the idle speed checked.

Why does my oil pressure drop to zero at a stop in my Jeep Cherokee Sport?

The car starts up, and the oil pressure, just fine.

But after the car runs for a good while, 30 miles (45min driving), the oil pressure will drop to zero at a stop and my check gauges light comes on.

When I accelerate, the oil pressure picks back up and is fine, until the next stop.

The cycle resets once I turn the car off and let it sit.

What is causing this? Why does my oil pressure drop to zero at a stop in my Jeep Cherokee Sport?
check your oil level and also when was your last oil change? the oil pressure usually drops off when there is not enough oil to register in the pan sensor. also the filter if the oil is old may not be allowing the oil to move freely throughout the engine. Why does my oil pressure drop to zero at a stop in my Jeep Cherokee Sport?
your oil pump is on its way out you can get some oil treatment see if that helps but you need to put a new Oil pump in your jeep
bottom of motor is gonna need rebuilding I had that problem before but like the other person said check oil level first
if there is no noise in the engine then it,s probably the sending unit.

Has anyone ever used the ';lucas oil' power steering stop leak chemical and if so did it work?

I had a steering gear box pitman arm seal leak on my 67 chevelle and it didn't help at all, I ended up replacing the seal.Has anyone ever used the ';lucas oil' power steering stop leak chemical and if so did it work?
Its really only a temporary fix, and seems to work OK for leaks due to a vehicle having sat too long without being started-it softens the seals. For a leak in the PRESSURE side there is no easy fix, the leaking hose/component will need to be replaced.

How can i stop really bad excess oil on my face?

i use powder to cover its up but that only works for about 45 mins and i cant keep putting on more powder!! HELP ME!!!How can i stop really bad excess oil on my face?
A clay mask draw out impurities.

Also don't keep changing cleansers and using harsh cleansers as they cause inflamation and spots. (And may have harsh, not needed chemicals in them.)

Use the 1 you find works best and stick to it. (Preferably a mild one.)

I don't think you should waste your money on toners either, IMHO.

Just splash your face with cold water when you're done cleansing.

Don't overload on moisturisers either. A mild 1 w/ at least SPF 15 is fine. If your skin feels oily the don't put it on your forehead and nose/How can i stop really bad excess oil on my face?
Wash %26amp; moisturize your face with an oil control formula. The moisturizer is very important. Carry oil-blotting paper with you during the day to blot away excess oil. And count your blessings for the future: oily skin is way less prone to wrinkles than all the other skin types. :)
the reason is because u might be over moisturizing or over washin it.ive got oily skin too. all you need to do is buy products thatt are oil free. im a guy so i use nivea for men spf 15 moisturizer cause it has spf in it and its oil free u should also try a moisturizer with spf 15 or higher like aveeno oil free spf 30.all you need is less than a dime sized amount on your finger tip and when you moisturize try not to rub your skin hard and do it with your fingertips. also get an oil free cleanser.

u dont need a foaming one but a gel cleanser is just fine.all you nead is a dime sized amount on your fingertips and with wet hands rub it in until it foams and lathers in your hands then genly rub it on your face for a minute or two and use warm water. i like to use my finger tips.when u wash your face u should not strip all the oils from it or else your face will be more oilier. but if u leave the oil then your face produces less.after u cleanse it dont forget to use a toner. this site will help. http://www.webmd.com/skin-problems-and-treatments/acne/features/oily-skin-solutions-that-work

  • I have oily facial skin. Is there any cream or something similar that will stop the oil from coming out?

my son has been using pine tar soap for a lil over a month now. it has really helped clear it up. he had it really bad. huge sores on his face, back and some on his arms and chest. you can get it thru your pharmacy. it costs about $4 a bar and a bar can last 3-4 wks.I have oily facial skin. Is there any cream or something similar that will stop the oil from coming out?
just have to say PROACTIV sucks!!! you're best bet if you have a greasy or oily face is to see a dermatologist. they have many products and face washes to help tame the oily face.

if you do not want to go see a dermatologist.. i would recommend washing your face twice a day, morning and night time (using Philosophy's ';purity'; face wash. you should ALWAYS use a moisturizer even if you skin is oily... the best one i have found is ';Philosophy's ';hope in a bottle,'; this one actually tames your face and helps with congested pores.

good luck (:I have oily facial skin. Is there any cream or something similar that will stop the oil from coming out?
DO NOT LISTEN TO THESE PEOPLE!!!

    ~~~~~~~~~PLEASE READ BEFORE WASHING~~~~~~~~~
    ~~~~~~~ ~~~~YOUR FACE A MILLION TIMES ~~~~~~~~~

If you wash your face waayyy too much you can actually be drying out your skin, causing it to secrete even more oils. The trick is keeping it moist, not dry it out. To fix this try using a cleanser that is less harsh on your skin and maybe ease up on using so much cleanser but still wash your face once in the morning and once at night. Use an oil free lotion. During the day when you become too oily... use oil blotters to soak up extra oils. Over time your body should just naturally realize that your skin doesnt need so much oil.
You should drink atleast 8 cups of water every day...use products for oily skin such as face wash and lotion...and if you use makeup, make sure it's non-comedogenic (won't clog pores).
Clinique and Avon make this stuff called mattifier. It is a gel that you apply directly to your skin after washing and it absorbs the oil that your skin makes during the day and keeps it from getting greasy or shiny.
    clearasil...the 3 day stuff...

it kicks ***. haha i had a pimple on my face...and by day 2...it was gone.

its like a red and blue squeeze bottle...i got the blackhead and the cleansing wash...it really works. but my skin is more combination...but it doesn't hurt to try.

don't touch your face...your hands make it more oily.
there is (almost) nothing that will stop your skin from producing oil. but you can but some oil absorbing sheets to wipe your face with often. the only thing that can actually stop the oil from being produced in the first place is a prescription medication used to treat acne, that works by shrinking the sebaceous (oil producing) glands in your skin. a doctor won't prescribe it to you unless you have persistent acne though.

some people say washing too much will make your skin ';over compensate'; and produce more oil, that is just not true. it isn't good to wash your face too much because it is too harsh and will dry out your skin, but the amount of sebum your skin produces has nothing to do with the how often you wash your face. that is a myth, ask any dermatologist.
DO NOT WASH YOUR FACE OFTEN!!!!

this will just cause your face to produce more oil to make up for what you're washing off. i have very oily skin too, and i use Neutrogena Deep Clean Shine-Free Cleanser to be oil free for at least 8 hours during the day. Also, at night use a light/mild acne cream at night if youre acne prone, and carry around oil blotting sheets for emergencies (paper towels also work for oil blotting).
Buy a ';Clinique'; bar soap ($7.50). NO chemicals added; wash ur face twice a day n u will c results fast. Do NOT eat greasy. junk food, sodas. Also do NOT pick at ur face.
Look into Pro Active Solution products. When i hit puberty i got a decent amount of acne and nothing worked as good as Pro Active Solution products not to mention they developed other products for oily skin. They have a lot of great stuff to offer!

Right now i am 26 years old and get by with Clearasil Daily Face Wash twice a day. Once in the morning and once at night. Usually i just use it when i take a shower early in the morning then after working out at night. Good luck and i hope this helps!
Yes, it's called soap (not in the French Dictionary).
you should just wash your face often.

When are high gas prices going to stop oil companys are making record proffits what can we do?

Some say boycott gas stations for a day but I don't think that could work b/c gas companies would get their profit anyway (just on a later date).

I think gas prices would decrease, over time, if people started ';killing two birds with one stone'; (combining trips) and carpooling, Also, avoiding unnecessary trips would cut the demand for fuel down. It's all about supply and demand. When are high gas prices going to stop oil companys are making record proffits what can we do?

How to stop my neighbor's smoking and cooking oil smell going into my condos?

I have a neighbor at one floor lower. I believe they use their home kitchen as commercial kitchen. Most of the mornings between 4:00AM to 5:00AM, they will fry something and created very bad smell. I almost suffocated. I have called police twice but my neighbor still doing the same. At 5:00AM, I will smell smoking from my room. At 9:00AM, the grandma will smoke at their garden and the smoke will go to master bedroom. What can I do to stop it? Thanks. How to stop my neighbor's smoking and cooking oil smell going into my condos?
Well, you could move. Or, when you call the police ask them to ask what and why your neighbors are doing that, If it's for a business, it could be illegal to be using the kind of equipment they are using to make food for public consumption. How to stop my neighbor's smoking and cooking oil smell going into my condos?
Nothing. They have the right to cook and smoke in their home.

If I take calcium to help weight loss, will it stop the evening primrose oil I take from absorbing properly?

Diet experts say that a calcium supplement acts to promote weight loss by making you excrete twice or three times a as much of the fat from your food, but I'm concerned that it might carry away the evening primrose oil I take (which I very much need). Not a scientist, so I don't know the answer! If I take calcium to help weight loss, will it stop the evening primrose oil I take from absorbing properly?
simply take your calcium in the morning and your primrose at night. If I take calcium to help weight loss, will it stop the evening primrose oil I take from absorbing properly?
if you REALLY WANT TO LOSE WEIGHT AND FAT then you should remember and do this:

    EVERYDAY RUN ( FAST WALK) + L-Carnitine + TAKE LESS CALORIES + LIPO-6 = 100% SUCCESS

    1) if you dint have then buy scales!!! that is the first thing to do!!

    2) run every 2 days for at least ~30 minutes or/and walk every day at least 5 km!

    3) L-Carnitine!!!

L-Carnitine is a nutrient that helps the body turn fat into energy. It is produced by the body in the liver and kidneys and stored in the skeletal muscles, heart, brain, and sperm. Usually, the body can make all the carnitine it needs. Some people, however, may be deficient in carnitine because their bodies cannot make enough carnitine or transport it into tissues so it can be used. Some other conditions, such as angina or intermittent claudication, can also cause insufficient carnitine in the body, as can some medications.L-Carnitine is made in the body from the amino acids lysine and methionine. It increases the use of fat as an energy source by transporting fatty acids into the mitochondria, where they are 鈥榖urned鈥?to release energy for body functions. It is available in several different forms including propionyl-L-carnitine and acetyl-L-carnitine. Propionyl-L-carnitine, through its enhancement of metabolism has been proven to prevent ischemia-induced heart dysfunction, and acetyl-L-carnitine has been suggested to delay the progression of Alzheimer鈥檚 disease. L-carnitine is found naturally in avocados, breast milk, dairy products, red meats (namely lamb and beef), and tempeh (fermented soybean product).

L-carnitine should be taken one hour before you will exercise! (Also you can take L-carnitine with meals or 1 to 1-1/2 hours after meals!)

L-Carnitine boosts energy by stimulating the body's burning of tryglycerides as fuel, and sparing the supply of glycogen stored in the liver for heavier exertion. During exercise, the body will burn fat at a rate of 75-80% of maximum exertion, thus less glycogen from carbohydrates is burned. L-carnitine

allows the body to burn more fat, save more glycogen, and ultimately boost stamina and endurance. By providing more fat to the muscles, carnitine makes accessible an otherwise unavailable energy source.

    FAT + OXYGEN + L-CARNITINE = ENERGY

    5) you MUST change your diet!! start to use products with less fat, less carbohydrates! start count your calories! do not eat more than ~1800 per day and if you feel that you can reduce this number then do it!

because if you will use L-Carnitine - you will get calories from your body fat too!! so better is to eat 2kg fruits then 1 cheeseburger...

and drink more and more water!! REMEMBER - NO rice, NO pasta, NO pork, NO mayonnaise, NO sweets, NO candies, NO alcohol!!!!!

    MORE fruits, vegetables!!!

    6) also you should use some fat-burner! I had tried many of them but only one worked for me as fast as I wanted to! it was Lipo-6! I lost ~80 pounds in 3 months! No starvation!! only LESS CALORIES + Lipo-6 + L-Carnitine + EVERYDAY RUN (FAST WALK) = SUCCESS!!!

I do not know if any store carry Lipo-6 but I do know that you should purchase it directly from the manufacturer and read more about the product here http://www.healthbuy.com/product/overvie鈥?/a>

It worked for me and my wife!

and this method is working for my friends too!!

just try it and I guarantee you 100% that you will lose wight!!!

    good luck!!!

Hondas and oil that will stop leaks, possible?

I have a 1991 Honda Accord XE, and apparently I can't use any oil (for the motor or power steering) that will stop leaks? Is this true? And if so, then what can I do ?Hondas and oil that will stop leaks, possible?
IF YOU ARE PLANNING TO SELL THE CAR LIKE TO THE DEALER THEN USE A PRODUCT CALLED ';ATP205';.

READ THE DIRECTIONS AND FOLLOW THEM, I HAVE USE THIS ON MANY OF MY CUSTOMERS VEHICLES THAT COULD NOT AFFORD TO HAVE THE REPAIRS DONE.

**********IT WORKS GREAT**********Hondas and oil that will stop leaks, possible?
I would advise fixing the oil leak problem before you ruin your engine. It will cost less to fix the problem than buying a new car.....
Fix your leak, there is no oil that will stop the leak and any stop leak treatment only does more damage in the long run than you want (it causes engine sludge valves sticking etc).
oils are not made to stop leaks, they are lubricants. Change gaskets and seals to stop leaks. Of course you can always add a little brake fluid to the oil to soften seals and slow the leak if a hard seal is the problem, but that ussually leads to catastophic failure in more than just the system you added it to. It's easier and safer to replace the leaking seal or gasket.
Fix the leak! Replace the gasket or whatever it takes. Do not try to stop oil leaks with any kind of additive or you will cause major damage to your engine.

If the power steering is leaking find out where it is leaking and repair the hose or gasket or whatever. you will plug up your power steering unit if you put anything but power steering fluid in it.
no oil is going to stop a leak. just like there is no cure all medicine. find out if the leak is from your oil plug, pan gasket or your cylinder heads. if the leak is from your power steering pump, there are seals that can be replaced, a new power steering pump is not all that expensive.
if you have an oil leak get it fixed oil cant stop anything you need to replace seals, gaskets ect.
There are stop leak additives available, but repairing the leaks works better.

Additives swell the seals and eventually, they leak again, if they stop at all.

Repairs from a bottle rarely are worth it.
those products are not advised EVER!!!!!

    get it fixed
no. buy a tracer light leak system it work awesome to pin point leaks. then repair them

Did anyone use olive oil on the perineum to stop tearing or needing cut?

Apparently this really helps to stop you from needing stitches.

Has anyone tried it and does it work?

XXDid anyone use olive oil on the perineum to stop tearing or needing cut?
I took a Hypnobirthing class, and they talked about this. The husband was supposed to do some perineal massage with olive oil. My husband tried to pretend he hadn't heard them talk about it, he didn't want to do it. (Of course they only talked about it in class, you do it at home.)

Anyway, in my personal experience, had an episiotomy with my first, and didn't tear or need an episiotomy with my second. Now, maybe the first birth kind of stretched everything out, but I think there were two things that made the difference. First, was with my first, my body just wasn't quite ready to give birth, my water broke at 37 weeks and I wasn't dilated or effaced, and wasn't having contractions, so it was basically a pitocin-induced labor. Then with my second, they induced labor at a couple days past my due date because of toxemia, so even though both labors were induced with pitocin, my body was more ready the second time.

The second thing was the hypnobirthing class. I felt much more relaxed about the birth the second time, I felt much more in control than I had the first time. (Although, the first time, obviously you don't know what you're doing or what to expect, so whether it was the class or just experience? Anyway...) I would definitely recommend taking a really good birthing class, not just a one-night class given at your hospital, but a really good class like hypnobirthing or the Bradley method, or lamaze, or any of them. The hypnobirthing method has you push a different way than the others, I think that also made a difference. So, relax, prepare by taking a good class, and push the right way. Even with all of that, you might still need stitches. Just be flexible and go with the flow!

Good luck!Did anyone use olive oil on the perineum to stop tearing or needing cut?
    Hey

I haven't tried it yet but plan to after reading about it. I asked my friend (who is a midwife) about it and she highly recommended it. She says that you should start massaging olive oil into the perineum and just inside the vagina from around 32 weeks. She sad that the olive oil acts as a moisturiser and leaves the area more supple and less likely to tear although, like everything in life, it's not guaranteed. She did say that women she has worked with who have done this were less likely to tear and if they did have a tear it was small and didn't require stitches.

I say go for it - it won't do any harm and anything is more appealing than having to be cut.

    Good luck!

    Indigo

    xxx
hi honey, i did this massage about 3 times a week, after showering, but i used a oil from Weleda, especially designed for this, but also read olive or almond oil also are cool, i highly recommend this, i didn't need any stitches, horaay for me!!! as i heard they can be a bugger while healing!! also after have a few lavender baths this also apparently helps with the healing, i got all these products together, in a weleda pregnancy pack, which was lucky!!! good luck!!!
I had a water birth, and the warmth of the water relaxed the skin and muscles to prevent tearing, but at the birth center where I had my son, they recommended using oil to massage the perineum. They also did it for you when you were in labor, the midwife or doctor would be massaging it in while you were pushing. They had a 1% episiotomy rate, so I guess it worked.

I'd like to add, episiotomies are rarely NEEDED. Unfortunately, its common practice to slice when dr.s just want baby out. The old story saying ';if you tear it will be too hard to stitch up, but with a cut its ust a straight line...'; NO! Most vaginal tears are not as deep as a dr.s cut, and most tears don't require stitching either.
I used Sweet Almond oil on my perineum from about 32 weeks and I only needed 1 stitch. I don't know if this was down to the oil or not, but it certainly doesn't hurt to give it a try. (Although by 32 weeks I did find it a struggle to get access, if you know what I mean LOL).
i did but needed an episiotomy anyway!

you can always try it, it might work for you.

by the way, you won't feel a thing if u need an episiotomy!
yea it works. but they still needed to cut me 2 times.
Blimey, what are you planning on getting up to, big lad is he.

  • What do you think of Pelosi asking Bush to temporarily stop stockpiling oil?

    http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20080424/pl_nm/usa_congress_spr_dc

Will it help gas prices? What do you think of Pelosi asking Bush to temporarily stop stockpiling oil?
It's her response to Republicans calling her to task for her remarks in 2006 about reducing the price of gas should the Democrats get elected. For those of you keeping score, the Democrats did get elected, and the wars in Iraq and Aghanistan are still in full swing, gas is up by a dollar, and the economy is falling apart.

I think it's not a bad proposal, but not the most serious one to be considered. She also promised to remove subsidies for oil companies, I guess maybe now she realizes that these subsidies contribute to our prices being so low compared to other countries. What do you think of Pelosi asking Bush to temporarily stop stockpiling oil?
Great idea! Makes much more sense than suspending the gas tax.

Clinton did this in the late 90s to keep prices down. It worked then and will work now
Incredibly shortsighted and stupid. Those stockpiles are key to allowing the federal government leeway in operations such as the war, the economy etc. Even if all the oil we had was sent to the pump and none stockpiled, the drop in price would be only temporary.
It shows how short sighted she really is and proves that she is over her head in her position.

Having no oil reserves makes us totally vulnerable to spot changes in the world market and at the complete disposal of foreign entities should they decide to reduce output.

If we stop all exploration for oil and drilling now can we trust Obama to provide us with alternative energy?

When can we expect to run completly out of oil if we listen to the liberals and stop all drilling? If we stop all exploration for oil and drilling now can we trust Obama to provide us with alternative energy?
The private sector will come up with the solution eventually. In the mean time we need to maintain the flow of oil. Anything else would be suicide. If we stop all exploration for oil and drilling now can we trust Obama to provide us with alternative energy?
Back in the 70's we were told by experts that we would run out of oil by the 90's. Now we see that a number of the tapped out oil fields in Texas and California are producing oil once again (renewable resource ?).

I believe we need to drill now and continue to look for alternatives. There is a financial incentive or the person or persons that can develop an alternative to oil so it should be no problem promoting development. The issue really comes down to are the current batches of alternatives the magic answer or are the Dem's and a great number of other folks on this planet hyper-focusing and not continuing to look. We were told ethanol would be the answer but turning food into fuel is just wrong. Additionally it is accelerating the further loss of rain forest in South America as the ground is turned into agricultural land to produce bio-fuel.

I don't think we can trust Obama or the Dem's. They are politicizing an issue that is too important for politics.
I listen to the Oil CEO's testifying in Congress last month May, 2008.... and they all lied that

    1. Demands are now low

    2. Supplies are now high .... about 3% increase

    3. It cost about $10 to make a barrel of oil but trade on Wall Street for $130 a barrel

    4. All the oil refineries are only operating at a 80% - 50% capacity because we already have too much oil

    5. The US is currently the #3 largest producer of oil in the world.... we sell our extra oils to Japan

    6. Plenty of oils right here in the USA =

    June 22nd, 2008

The U.S. Geological Survey just published its official results of a groundbreaking study.

Its report confirmed a massive oil reserve in an area the locals have nicknamed the ';Bakken,'; which stretches across North Dakota, Montana and southeastern Saskatchewan.

The new USGS study estimates a whopping 3.65 billion barrels of oil in the Bakken...

The reported 3.65 billion barrels of oil mean estimate is for 'undiscovered' oil only, and doesn't include known oil, such as reserves.

In fact, the study reports a 25-fold increase in the amount of oil that can be recovered... compared to the agency's estimate back in 1995.

Discovered over 50 years ago, the Bakken deposit--once impossible to extract--is now being hailed as the single largest oil find in US history.

That's because, today, thanks to breakthrough drilling techniques like horizontal drilling, the Bakken's oil shales can be extracted relatively cheaply.

When that happens, this light, sweet oil will cost Americans just $16 per barrel! and trade on Wall Street for $130-$140 a barrel
Go to this website and sign this petition!

    www.americansolutions.com

You will look back on this day and realize that YOU decided the presidency in 2008. McCain almost pooped his pants when he found out how many Americans want us to be less dependent on foreign oil. Almost 1.5 million signatures!!! That is what changed his mind about drilling. Mark my words, this petition WILL decide who becomes our next president. And I will be proud to say that I played my part and so can you.

    God Bless this country.
Obama can't provide us with anything, except liberal politics as usual. He can't turn water into wine, and he can't provide alternative energy. Only private industry can do that.
Obama will give you squat while raising taxes on gas.
alternative energy is great, but why is it one or the other. We can drill now while persuing alt. energy can't we?

My car has antifreeze leaking into the oil. Mechanic put stop leak in to buy me some time.?

What signs should I look for before the engine on my 2001 Olds Alero is damaged. My car has antifreeze leaking into the oil. Mechanic put stop leak in to buy me some time.?
Well, it already has some damage (head gasket leak or cracked cylinder head). I think what you mean is more damage. The main thing is to keep a very close eye on the oil, assuming of course it has been changed already. If it starts to look like a chocolate milkshake again, you still have a leak, and the oil won't be able to do it's job. Bearing failure (camshaft, crankshaft, connecting rods) could result. Then you have a much higher repair bill than you're already facing. My car has antifreeze leaking into the oil. Mechanic put stop leak in to buy me some time.?
It is damaged, the antifreeze is mixing with the oil, that means you've got a blown head gasket.

If the gasket fails, a variety of problems can occur, from compression loss (leading to power reduction, or a rough engine), to exhaust gases being forced into the cooling system, leading to the engine overheating and increased engine wear due to the motor oil being mixed with antifreeze. Coolant can leak into the cylinders, causing the exhaust to issue steam and the catalytic converter to be damaged. If a very large amount of coolant does this, hydrolock can occur, causing extensive engine damage. Sometimes, all that may happen when a head gasket is blown is excessive steam erupting from the tailpipe; yet the engine may act and drive like normal, until all the coolant is gone and the engine overheats.

I'd change the oil, change the antifreeze and trade that thing today.
everyone keep,s telling you it,s a head gasket or cracked head...it could also be a cracked block...in any case it,s a major problem...antifreeze/coolant is not corrosive [ if it were it would wreak havoc in the cooling jacket,s in your engine] but it,s not a lubricant either %26amp; will interfere with the oil,s ability to do just that...change your oil %26amp; filter...the stop leak may work for a while but I,d start saving for some major repair,s or a new or different vehicle...the only sign,s to look for are loss of coolant %26amp; coolant in the oil...possible overheating...but the damage has already been done...just hope the stop leak does it,s job...hopefully for a long time....good luck!
You most likely have a leaking intake gaskets if its the v6 3.1/3.8 engine. Its a common failure area on gm cars. It's not a good thing and stop leak will probably work as well as cleaning the windows will. I would hurry up and have the repairs performed because the car will overheat and water in oil is a no no. Oil lubricates, coolant doesn't.... not because its corrosive but engine parts use a film of oil to separate parts from wearing on each other...coolant doesn't. If you value the car fix it now....if not drive it until it dies.
Oil in the antifreeze is a huge flashing red light that your engine is damaged. That's it, game over, you have a damaged engine. The coolant and oil are in secluded systems. they don't mix. That means there is a crack somewhere letting coolant into the oil system. and i'll tell you this.. oil lubractes parts in the engine block. Coolant runs through the engine block to keep the engine cool. Now you tell me how oil and coolant get together....ya...through the engine block.

    Car's junk.

Edit: I should note my example is worst case and Jcontrol's example is best case...but both cases suck. sorry
Is your oil MILKY???? If not, you should read the ';dexcoolsettlement.com'; web-site and the ';GM Litigation'; web-sites. The GM V6's have a tendency to leak coolant right into the combustion chambers due to chemical reactions between the coolant and the gasket material used. If this is NOT your problem, then remove your spark plugs and watch their colors. A disclolred plug will indicate which cylinder is having trouble. At this point, you might try to re-torque your head gasket. This might re-seal it and fix it. If not, then you have some money to spend!!!
Well, water and oil don't mix so your car isn't going to make it too much longer. Besides, coolant is a corrosive liquid and will eat away at the metal in your engine. You need to get this fixed asap and get an oil change to flush out all the coolant.
What signs ?? How about the Green engine Oil ???

It already is Damaged... Stop driving it until you find the problem before you end up costing yourself an engine.....

    Possible causes :

    1. Head gasket

    2. Cracked cylinder head

    3. Cracked cylinder block
You have a head gasket going bad or a small crack in a head which can get worse quickly! The only way to be sure is to disassemble the top end of the engine! ;-(=

Do you think they will ever stop brokers from buying up oil for the mega rich monopolizing the market?

Then after they take a 20% profit pass this on to the consumer. This is why gas is so high.Do you think they will ever stop brokers from buying up oil for the mega rich monopolizing the market?
I love how this morning they were talking to some ';Analyst'; who works for the oil companies I am sure, on Good Morning America or Good Day, one of those shows and he said it was our fault that oil is so high because we drive to much and we need to conserve. I love how they say this like we are all in Hummers with our cars running our driveways. Nevermind the fact that Bush gave oil companies like Mobile %26amp; Exxon Multi-Millions of dollars for ';Alternative Fuel Research'; instead of say the states so they could provide more mass transit for the people. Here's a thought how about we stop shipping American oil to China and let them get it from the middle east?Do you think they will ever stop brokers from buying up oil for the mega rich monopolizing the market?
Maybe, they stopped futures trading after the stock market collapsed in 1929.

I have a 88 thunder brid turbo coupe oil guage stop working?

go to autozone, pepboys, walmarts, ETC. and buy an aftermarket oil gauge and install it.I have a 88 thunder brid turbo coupe oil guage stop working?
If it is a single wire sender unit (on the block somewhere) Unplug ithe wire and ground it to the engine, turn on the key. The oil pressure should peg out, turn the key back off, don't keep the key on long with the wire grounded. You may ruin the gauge. If the gauge pegs out, replace the sender, if not, check the wiring from the sender to the instrument panel. Autozone.com has a schematic.I have a 88 thunder brid turbo coupe oil guage stop working?
scenting unit on motor stopped up.
I would hook a mechanical guage up. That means find the oil sending unit and unscrew it from the block. hook up a line and pressure guage right there and start the engine to see if the car has a oil pressure problem or a guage problem. That will tell you which way to go as far as a repair

Why the president Chavez from venezuela want to stop sending the oil?

Chavez can't stop selling oil to the US.

If he did he couldn't fund his socialist programs.

He's just like the mountain mullahs preaching to the poor and telling 'em that things won't change because the US is the great satan. Meanwhile, scratch the surface to find that a very few very rich very powerful people have all the money and the resources.

Chavez isn't attacking Bush. He's just a fool prancing about on the stage for the benefit of maintaining the status quo of a few very rich and many very poor in Venezuala.
One thing I have in common with Chavez--neither one of us can stand Bush. Meanwhile, Bush has called this guy every name in the book as well. Bush supporters were boycotting gas stations that were selling Venezuelan oil (I think Citgo was one). Chavez responded by starting a program of sending cheap oil for low-income families, which was more than Bush ever did for them.

Yeah, but it's OK to buy oil from Saudi Arabia even though the vast majority of the hijackers on 9/11 were Saudi, and even though they treat women worse than dogs (they're not even allowed to drive).

How can I stop the barometric damper on my oil furnace from sticking open?

I have an oil burning furnace and recently I have noticed soot on the floor and the damper door sticks open after the furnace runs. What can I do to keep the door swinging freely and not stick open? How can I stop the barometric damper on my oil furnace from sticking open?
Use an old toothbrush to clean any rust and soot from the hinge portions. Check for any mechanicla damage or bent parts (sticking points). Lube the hinges with a high temp lube from the auto store, or in a pinch a small amount of 3-in-1 will hold you for a while.

The damper should be fine. If it continues to stay open it is likely out of balance. Ideally you could et that properly serviced. Or you may choose to slowly advance the weight on the stud bolt until it allows the damper to just close. How can I stop the barometric damper on my oil furnace from sticking open?
First, have the chimney checked for blockage..Second, oil it, or replace it..Soot on the floor makes me nervous.
soot indicates incomplete burning!useally the problem is not enough air .if it sticks open then it sticks closed .i would replace the damper or disenage it because the damper is the reason its 80 or 90 %.believe me you will still be OK......

Are oil ';stop leak'; products beneficial or damaging to your vehicle?

I have a oil leak in my car...I do not know where the leak originates from however I have in the past seen a few oil ';stop leak'; products...please advise me....do they work, or are they ineffective and will damage my vehicle.

Thank you for your much needed advise on this question. Are oil ';stop leak'; products beneficial or damaging to your vehicle?
I've used those products in the past on several vehicles with great results. If a rubber seal is worn and becoming hard the conditioner will swell and soften permanently. It can't hurt anything. This is one thing that many of us have been told is not good to use,I don't believe that. Are oil ';stop leak'; products beneficial or damaging to your vehicle?

On the average, they only swell seals or block certain leaks, which

sometimes blocks important oil passages as well. Your best bet

is to get under the vehicle and track down the leak. It's a good chance

it may just be a valve cover leaking down or something small. If it

is a bigger problem like a rear main seal or oil pan gasket, the leak

stop products are only putting a temporary band aid on it, and that's

if it even works at all. My personal experience with the oil leak stops

is.... forget about it ! Find your leak if you plan on keeping your car.

    Good Luck to you
I am not sure if those ';stop leak'; products it's really beneficial or more damaging. The first thing is to find out where/what is leaking, I personally would take the car to a mechanic and get it fix. Normally it's just a oil-seal, o-ring, or gasket that has done it's days.
i don,t think they will harm the engine but that stuff is only temporary. about the only true way of fixing a leak is change the gaskets or 0-rings.
they are a waste of money and sometimes a temporary fix that can do more damage than their worth, just bite the bullet and get it fixed right.
Kev said it as well as I could - have the leak properly repaired.

How do I stop the engine breather from blowing oil when I start my 1982 FLH?

I have a 1982 FLH that blows oil from the engine breather when I start it. It has a new S%26amp;S oil pump. It blows oil only after sitting for a few days. How do I stop the engine breather from blowing oil when I start my 1982 FLH?
your check valve ball is not seating, it may seat its self after a while. if it were mine I'd give it a while to see if it does.

if you've got a stock style oil pump the check valve spring %26amp; ball is under the lower slotted plug on top of the oil pump(the taller one covers the bypass spring %26amp; plunger) .if you want to check it, block or pinch the oil feed line from the tank, remove the slotted plug %26amp; take out the spring %26amp; ball with a pencil magnet or small magnetic tip screw driver %26amp; inspect it for scratches or rust, if its ok put it back in %26amp; use a brass rod %26amp; give it a light tap with the handle of a screw driver(NOT A HAMMER) to seat it then put the spring %26amp; plug back. some times this will fix them sometimes not. DONT stretch the spring to make it stronger !How do I stop the engine breather from blowing oil when I start my 1982 FLH?
I second that! Go to the check ball. Crash is right on.
Crash has it right. The other guys have no idea how a Harley functions.
You have oil coming from the pan and it is getting in the intake from the rings. Have a compression done before repairs are made.
This is a common prob on the older HDs. Sound like the oil lines are connected wrong! Did you do the pump yourself? If you connect the lines wrong into the oil bag it will cause this! Inside the oil bag is different length tubes. 2 are always in oil and one is above. If you put the one that is suppose to be above in the wrong spot, oil will constantly be at the oil pump, seeping by the check valve in the oil pump while the bike is parked and fill the bottom end of your engine. When you hit the starter, the piston comes down pressurizing the bottom end and forcing the oil out threw the crankcase vent that is linked to your breather! If it is the check valve, find yourself a push rod. Take out the check valve and use one of the ball ends of the push rod to reface the valve seat. Just insert the push rod into the seat and give it a few light taps with a hammer. The push rod is hard and the seat is a softer metal. Just a few lite taps and the seat will be reshaped and the ball can now seal.
you have a ring that is sticking

How do i stop my fries from sucking oil?

I fry french potatoes at home and they usually turn up oily so i want some tips on how to stop that.

and also i want to know what are some creative delicious spices to use with the fries? How do i stop my fries from sucking oil?
what they teach you in chef school is ';shake, bang, hang';.

when your fries are cooked you need to shake them in the basket, bang the basket a few times, and leave the basket to hang for 30 seconds to let all the excess oil drain away.

by the end of this process there should be NO oil dripping from the basket, if there is, then repeat this process. (i normally shake bang and hang twice just to be sure)

what you are trying to do is get rid of all the excess oil which if not removed will just sit next to your fries and be absorbed into them.

for best results use bigger chips. the smaller they are cut, the more oil they will absorb. this is because there is a greater surface area exposed to the oil compared to larger cuts of potatoes. try ';13mm'; chips for best resuts, instead of the normal 1mm ';french fry'; also stay away from crinkle cut chips, i will admit they are delicious, but this is because of the amount of fat in them. the 'crinkle cut' just exposes a bigger surface area to absorb fat into.

what ever you do DONT DOUBBLE FRY YOUR CHIPS!!!!!!!

as soon as you pull your chips out of the deep fryer, they start to cool down, and the oil starts to emulsify with the potato and solidify. if you then place it back into hot oil YOUR CHIP WILL ABSORB TWICE THE AMOUNT OF FAT!!!

to make a really healthy chip use a thick cut, use hot oil (180 celceus)

    and shake bang hang.

for seasoning try:chicken salt, sea salt, lemon pepper (yum yum), or just strait sea salt.

How do i stop my fries from sucking oil?
I always make sure my homemade fries are cold, they have been in the refrigerator for a little while.

I make sure the fry size is not too thick

I also make sure the oil is at 375 degrees farenheit.

Do not fry to many at once or you will lower the oil temperature and this will make a longer cook time

Also try double frying, put the fries in for about 2 minutes take them out for about 1 or two minutes then put them back in for another 2 or 3 minutes, of course total cook time will depend upon the size of your fries.
Like the above posters have already stated #1 is hot oil before putting in the potatoes this ';seals'; the food while frying.. after they have turned golden brown scoop up with slotted spoon or wire basket and let pause for a second or two to allow any extra hot oil to drain back down into fryer then have a bowl ready lined with a double layer of paper towels to absorb any extra oil .. they will not be greasy !While still hot, sprinkle with salt regular salt, sea salt ,or kosher salt I have also sprinkled with parmesan cheese which is really good .... They are delicious just plain with ketchup and when you have a good thing don't mess with it!
You need to test whether the oil is hot enough by dropping in a single chip and looking for bubbles seething around it. Another good tip is to double fry your fries. Do small batches until the fries are cooked but not browned, drain onto newspaper or paper towels and then re-fry in larger batches until golden brown.

In England we make fatter fries and eat them with malt vinegar and salt.
Get your grease or oil hot, like 375-400 before you drop them in when they begin to float they are done.Dont leave them in too long either. After you get them out put them in a brown paper bag put in salt or old bay seasoning, close top of bag and shake for a few seconds. the bag will absorb some more oil and the seasoning will coat the fries much better.

I like garlic and onion powder on mine. The old bay seasoning is also very good. Salt and paprika are good combos too.

365-375潞F is best. Use a candy thermometer to be sure. If when you drop one fry in, it just sort of floats down to the bottom, the oil is not hot enough. It should rapidly sizzle and make bubbles the moment you drop one in.

Do not overcrowd the fries. Cook in batches, so the fries don't reduce oil temp too much. This is especially important if using frozen FF.

Your oil must be very hot, 375 degrees, before you put your fries in to cook -- otherwise, your fries will definitely soak up a lot of grease.

We sprinkle our fries with kosher salt, freshly ground black pepper and paprika.
Your oil needs to be hot BEFORE you put in the fries, as the oil seals them and it doesn't get absorbed.
Your oil is not hot enough
    Wrap them in plastic.

Is there anything on the market to stop an oil leak.also to prevent smoke on start up. xantia diesel, m reg.

looking for something new in british car shops. Is there anything on the market to stop an oil leak.also to prevent smoke on start up. xantia diesel, m reg.
Yes and it comes in a small bottle that you just pour in the oil filler cap it has many names and OIL SAVER is just one

as to the oil smoke on start up it depends on whether it is excess diesel fuel smoke ( normally white ) or engine oil smoke this is bluey grey and tends to be slow to disperse

if your engine is high mileage ie 150,000 on a Diesel then it may be the death knoll for your engine SorryIs there anything on the market to stop an oil leak.also to prevent smoke on start up. xantia diesel, m reg.
go to halfords and ask for Winn's stop smoke in a bottle looks a bit like treacle stops it smoking a bit but probably wont cure oil leak
There is no such thing as a ';mechanic in a can'; Smoke on start up is not all that uncommon, depends on what color it is. Is it white? black? As far as the oil leak, simple things it...its leaking....find out where and fix it, pouring a can of gunk in is not the answer.
oil leaks are resolved by replacing gaskets or oil seals. a smoking engine requires either valve guides, piston rings or injector/pump overall depending on wether smoke is blue or black.
    A garage.

  • Why is it more important to bomb our enemies instead of stop giving them oil money?

    Because we need the oil.

In some cases, the enemy would be able to sell oil to someone else. The big example is Saddam. Why isn't the government doing anything to stop the monopoly of oil companies in the US?

I don't know. Ask your Senator or Congressman! There are many things they could do.

Stop selling Electronics, Weapons, Planes, and related spare parts to the Oil Producing Countries.

Start putting tariffs on all Countries shipping their products to the USA.

Build nuclear reactors to product electricity.

Put those electric producing wind mills in the ocean off the Kennedy Massachusetts Coast.

Ground all private jet aircraft, and let them all travel with the Airlines like the rest of us.

Rebuild coast to coast rail lines for passengers and freight.

Close Our Boarders to all Illegals, and I mean by any means necessary!

Force ALL POLITICIANS to travel by Public Transportation, and see how they like it.

Reduce the taxes on Home heating Oil and gas. The taxes are more that the Oil Companies Make.

Investigate how and who is responsible for the unrealistic rise in the cost of Oil. Then really do some thing to them legally, or otherwise! Why isn't the government doing anything to stop the monopoly of oil companies in the US?
It may just be a fine point, but the oil companies, by definition because there are more than just one of them, are not a monopoly. Put another big word in your vocabulary . . . oligopoly . . . which is when you have a relatively few companies working within a market. Individually they don't weild any significant power, but when they work in conjunction with each other they exert monopoly power. When that happens they get referred to as a ';cartel';.

But, back to your question: The government isn't doing anything about the petroleum oligopoly exerting monopoly power becase most of the Bush Administration (Executive Branch is charged with enforcing the laws) are so thoroughly in bed with the petroleum giants that stopping them would be insuring lower stock dividends for them, and fewer kickbacks. They won't bite the hand that feeds them. Why isn't the government doing anything to stop the monopoly of oil companies in the US?
Evidently, you think the oil companies, control the worldwide price of oil.

Exactly what would be the difference between having 6 oil companies BUYING oil from foreign countries to refine into gasoline.

And having 12 oil companies BUYING oil from foreign countries and refining into gasoline ?

The oil would cost the same, or even increase in price, because more oil companies would be trying to out bid each other to buy the oil, so they could refine it into gasoline.
Explain how companies, yes the plural of company, can have a monopoly. The correct word is oligopoly. Besides, the US gov't is already doing enough to hurt the oil companies, why do you think prices are so high? If the gov't gave them more freedoms, like the freedom to drill in new places and increase supply, then prices would go down.
It is not the governments job to do so. As much as some may wish, America is not a socialist government. As to you monopoly theory, you would have to speak to the countries we purchase our oil from. President Bush has been trying to get Congress to allow more drilling and more refineries, but they will not. So we are at an impasse. Either we produce our own oil, for a cheaper rate, or continue to pay what others charge.
Because the politicians get paid off, or have other connections with those companies. However, like everyone said , there is no monopoly. There is, on the other hand, a lot of shady decisions being made by certain companies.
There is no monopoly - it's a stretch to even say they have an oligopoly. Supply and demand. Drive those big SUV's and watch the price go up. Park those big SUV's and ride public trans and watch the price go down. It's not that hard to learn.
Because oil is big business, makes a lot of money and most of the politicians have investments in them and are not going to do anything to jeopardize that.
    There is no monopoly.

The federal and state governments collet trillions of dollars from them.
Because it's not a monopoly - as you point out, there are multiple ';companies';, not just one.
What monopoly? I buy my gas from BP (British Petroleum), not Exxon, Citgo, Texaco, Shell...
The oligopolist (all combined) with the ';Gov'; under the covers with them, monopolize this resource. Some of us won't change until we're forced. ;-/
Because there is no monopoly in the oil industry.
because how do you have global corporations without a monopoly?
because the oil companies pay the politicians.
It isn't really the govt's job to hamper the free market (although they do it anyway.
First they would have to stop the oil from flowing.... good luck

Should we start drilling for oil in the United State and stop out sourcing Jobs to far away lands?

Seems to me this would go a very long way to helping our countries finances Greatly.Should we start drilling for oil in the United State and stop out sourcing Jobs to far away lands?
That is a good idea. It would make sense to use some of the oil revenue to fund alternative fuel research. That way we get energy now and they oil companies can make alternatives when they are perfected. The oil companies will make money now and will have alternatives to make money off in the future.Should we start drilling for oil in the United State and stop out sourcing Jobs to far away lands?
The big oil companies have millions of acres that they have and aren't drilling on them.

It's time for the government to seize them because it's our land anyway, give them to wildcat companies (Which are usually small businesses by the way), and create tons of jobs for the American People.
i am all for it, the question is HOW are you going to do that? the devil is in the details.
Someone needs to give the oil companies a swift kick in the *** to get them going.
There are thousands of permits out there that have oil. The companies choose not to drill to keep the price high.

  • When will OPEC nations stop exporting oil?

I know that oil will run out by 2055, but in which year will OPEC nations stop selling oil to foreign countries and keep their oil for themselves?

When will OPEC nations stop exporting oil?
Actually oil will run out by 2038.I say this because every second of every day someone in some part of the world has/gets a license and has/buy a vehicle and re-fuel it constantly. It means that over 1billion vehicles are beign fueled a day.OPEC nations will stop exporting oil when foreign nations no longer need it(when enhancing technology, alternative energy fully come on stream). You see they are only exporting oil to those who request it,so if no one request it they have no reason to export it.In fact OPEC has had at least two meeting to cut its productions and exports because of current economic conditions which lead to a serious fall in request/demand.When will OPEC nations stop exporting oil?
We will definitely never run out of oil, and anything you have heard to the contrary is wrong. Because when oil finally does start to become truly scarce (certainly not the case now) it will become more and more and more expensive, and people will move to alternatives for every single use of oil instead, until finally no one is using oil for anything.

We already can replace every use of oil with something else. We don't do so yet because oil is still cheaper and more convenient.

But to your point, you can't eat oil. Most of the OPECkers can't make anything except oil, so they'll still sell it as long as they want to eat.
We don't know when oil will run out. We were told in the 1970's that we would be out by now. More oil is discovered, and sometimes oil that was previously unrecoverable is now recoverable based on new technology.
How do you know this ?

    Someone told you ?

    Don't believe everything you hear..

    In short..

No one knows the exact answer to your question.

I put oil on the wheel to stop it from squeaking but it squeaks again after a day or so. What do I do?

The cage is now downstairs, no prob, I just wanna know. If it isn't very loud, I can hear the wheel from upstairs.I put oil on the wheel to stop it from squeaking but it squeaks again after a day or so. What do I do?
I put petroleum jelly on mine just no name cheapest you can find. It stops it from sticking and squeking and there's no way of it harming the animal if they get some on their fur or ingest a tiny bit.I put oil on the wheel to stop it from squeaking but it squeaks again after a day or so. What do I do?
vaseline will work....replacing with plastic is the other option.
    Dental wax.

Like the kind used to keep new braces from cutting your mouth.

Warm it slightly (in your hands) and pack it into where it's rubbing. As it rubs it wears down and lubricates the whole thing. It works like a charm.

If you don't know anyone with braces, call around to dentists and orthodontists. Chances are, they'll give you a container of it free.
I used to put baby oil on my hamster wheel and that worked pretty well. Try buying him/her a plastic wheel those don't make nearly as much noise. You could also take some toilet paper and cut a VERY thin strip and put it in the hole that hold the base of the wheel. That will silence the noise but if it's a hamster he WILL chew that tissue paper off so you'll have to refresh the tissue everyday if you do that.
I would recommend throwing it out and getting a Silent Spinner. I never hear the hamster at night. Well sadly the hamster died, but when it did run, I couldn't hear anything. All I could hear was the clicking when it drank from it's water bottle.

When I was a kid I had one of those stinking metal wheels and it ticked me off every night. And I wasn't even smart enough to put oil on it.

Try a silent spinner, they aren't really expensive.
I always put vaseline on my wheels and they stop making noise for alone time.
if you can put Vaseline on the wheel it wont squeak for a long time.
Vaseline works wonders, just make sure you don't put too much on, and wipe off any excess. This method is tried and true, I haven't heard my girlfriend make any comments about their wheel except now that you can only hear the pitter patter of our hamsters running on it.

    Good Luck :)
I spray mine with Pam cooking oil, and that takes care of the squeaking for quite a while.

If we stop our dependence on foreign oil can we forget about radicals who hate America?

Seems to me if we don't need middle east oil then we can stop sending our young men and women to die there. And stop wasting billions.

If we develop alternative energy we will have products to manufacture and sell to the rest of the world.

If we stop our dependence on foreign oil can we forget about radicals who hate America?
Yes. Ask Boone Pickens what he thinks about the largest redistribution of wealth in the history of mankind.

Is it okay to use baby oil to cover or stop the flaking on my face?

I had allergic reaction from a moisturizer, and I think the process is almost done, but now my face is flaking really badly...I'm so embarassed and I have to go to work soon...Is it okay to use baby oil to cover it up?? Or what kind of advice would u share?

Pls help?!Is it okay to use baby oil to cover or stop the flaking on my face?
It sounds to me like you need a mild 1% hydrocortisone cream (maybe .5% would work too) just for a few days until the flaking stops, then a gentle mild hypo-allergenic moisturiser, something cheap and simple, ask the pharmacist. The flaking is part of the inflammatory reaction you had from the allergy. Is it okay to use baby oil to cover or stop the flaking on my face?
Well you could use that BUT a better way would be to use petroleum jelly LESS is more or better a SMALL amount or less. use on face while asleep is best effects. use a tinny amount I hope I can stress that enough. use some under make up so as not to irritate with the makeup kinda a protection if you will.

USE gentle creams NEVER lotions on a face unless prescribed by a doc. use baby soaps that is bests to a oatmeal based soap for cleansing. Hope this helps. I have sever psoriasis and this is what my Derm. has repeatedly told me and others as well.

    Best to you
Baby oil is kinda heavy to put on your face....I would only use it if you know for sure you are not allergic to it.

I'd go buy a container of Eucerin, it's hypoallergenic and my dermalogist recommends it for sensitive skin.
Rather than using baby oil, I use Nutragena Sesame Body Oil. It's very light if you use only a few drops. I rub it into my hands, then onto my face. A small bottle lasts me over a year.
Baby oil often has added fragrances that could irritate the skin.I use grapeseed oil, which is about $4 or less per bottle. You can LIGHTLY exfoliate the flakes first, in the shower with a washcloth.

I also find the oil is great for eliminating blackheads: I rub the oil on at the end of the day for 30 sec, then wash it off with a gentle cleanser. It makes my skin smooth and clear!
sure, although yo should use some lotion. I use baby oil to prevent dry skin in this cold time period.
    how about vaseline.

What good are concept cars, nothing ever happens with them. I want something done now for us to stop oil.?

Do we have to wait for China to come up with REAL cars that run without gas? Are we Americans so stupid? Vehicles could already be on the roads if bigger profits for the conglomerates were the motivator. They won't give up the golden goose as long as it lays! What good are concept cars, nothing ever happens with them. I want something done now for us to stop oil.?
Yeah, i've been seeing these ';concept cars'; for years now. Ones that run on Hydrogen or solar or Electric. But they're always years away.

Invalid High school dropouts are making these things now out of spare parts in their garages. and these multi billion dollar industries are stumped? It's all oil. Oil corporations have hundreds of billions to spend solely on Lobbying the government to keep cars running on gas.

Even the Chevy volt was originally an all electric car that performed better and faster than the Tesla, now it's been dumbed down to a plug in hybrid, and by the time it comes out (if that ever happens) it'll probably be just an average hybridWhat good are concept cars, nothing ever happens with them. I want something done now for us to stop oil.?
Most concept cars would never pass the safety laws. I recently saw one with no rear window and no side view mirrors. Some near-production concepts will make it into the market - the Volt (in some form), the Honda Hybrid, the plug-in Escape, the next generation of Prius, and I hope the Toyota A-BAT truck.
    Try looking at:

    www.aptera.com

You can currently reserve one in California, and they are hoping to expand and make it available to every state in the U.S. within the next few years.
Sounds like U have a job, get it done.
Only Commute to work cars need to be electric. Long distance vehicles could still be Hybrids or Gas. When we reduce the amount of gas we use the price of oil will drop.

OPEC dropped it's price big time when they thought Carter was going to get America to reduce oil dependency. Also Semi Trucks and other High horsepower needs would still be Gas or Diesel. Check out www.phoenixmotorcars.com for a normal looking battery car I wish would be adopted by the major car makers.
the primary benefit of concept cars is to get people to come to shows and showrooms, and therefor look at cars they can buy now.

i'm still waiting for a car like the Jetsons had.
Yes, it seems like American auto manufacturers are just stalling on the whole electric car thing.

I guess we are going to have to wait for like Toyota to build battery-electrics.

The good news is, I think the CAT is coming out pretty soon!

    :D .... : (

    compressed air cars are stupid...
What we ned is someone out there to come up with something and Blab it all over the Internet. Come on where are you doers.
people don't realize how hard change is without a catalyst. yes electric cars are all well and nice but think how difficult the transfer from gas to electric will be. First off the oil companies will have to lay off tons of employees, second although there will still be petro powered vehicles thousands of mechanics will lose their jobs. Yes new jobs will be created but the fact is electric powered cars require less maintance and consume less. In todays society money is god and simply put electric cars are not as nearly profitable as petro.
    ';Vehicles could already be on the roads if bigger profits for the conglomerates were the motivator. ';

Bigger profits ARE the motivator. Do YOU have a ';concept'; car? Why not? They're out there. They're available.

When in business, you give the people what they want. People don't want dinky, lightweight golf carts or scooters with no heat or AC.

Why build it if you can't sell it?
run without gas?? ur a crackpot...and ur nuts if u think china does anything more then copy [steal] others designs
I agree somewhat. Why is we had cars in the 80's that got over 50MPG, but can't now?. One was gas (Honda), and one was diesel (VW). Europe right now has thousands and thousands of low cost simple diesels on the road getting over 50 MPG. Why is it the best we are doing is a very complex and expensive Hybrid that gets less (Prius is rated at 45MPG)?

Could it be us? The cars are there. Could it be the manufacturers can't sell them here? Is it because we spoiled Americans just want bigger and faster? Naaa, lets blame the corporations, it must be them.

Will a flywheel dust cover or torque converter cover stop my slow oil leak from dripping on my headers until i?

get it fixed?? Its just a very slow leak from the rear main and it just seems to drip at the wrong damn time. Like at a stop light. Will a flywheel dust cover or torque converter cover stop my slow oil leak from dripping on my headers until i?
no the cover will not stop it you will have to put up with it till you fix it. just check the oil level and it wont do any damage. Will a flywheel dust cover or torque converter cover stop my slow oil leak from dripping on my headers until i?
Well it won't stop the leak, just redirect it.the dust covers have a drain hole. But it will blow back and cover your under side with oil.if its a real slow leak, try putting some brake fluid in the oil.about 8oz. and run it.it'll swell up the seal.it does the same thing as that seal conditioner they sell, only cheaper.

  • What can i buy to stop oil leak incar ? engine block has crack cant afford major work ?

A used engine. What can i buy to stop oil leak incar ? engine block has crack cant afford major work ?
Nothing. Sorry, but if you were talking about a leaky gasket, there are additives that will swell gaskets and subsequently stop leaks. In your case, major work is unavoidable.

You *might* have limited success with JB Weld. If you can get to the crack that is. Clean off the area very good of all oil and dirt - a brake cleaner works good for this. Mix the JB weld and apply it liberally to the crack. Let it sit for 24 hours - no exceptions. This might slow or stop the leak long enough to get by.

However, I'm assuming your block cracked from something breaking inside the engine (rod?). I can't imagine it's still running or will run for long if this is the case but a tube of JB Weld is less than $10 and worth the shot I guess.

Good luck. What can i buy to stop oil leak incar ? engine block has crack cant afford major work ?
I know of a couple of different substances that seal cracks in engine blocks and cylinder heads. Permantex makes an excellent sealer for casting leaks. I would recommend jbweld sealer for your engine block. I hope for your sake that it isn't a very big hole and that it doesn't leak too much oil or coolant. Good luck.
theres ways to fix things but no body knows what you are talking about.

How to stop my car from leaking oil?

I have a 1995 1.9L Merc Tracer 4 cyl 88hp automatic front wheel drive. I took it to a mechanic and he told me that the oil sending unit is the place it is leaking. I am wondering where the leak whould come from and if it is easy to fix, whether if it is the sending unit or something else. I have to put in a quart of oil every 2 weeks or so. The puddle of oil is hardly that big (drops of oil) but my car could deceive me. I think I lose most of my oil during my drive to where ever it is I go to. ThanksHow to stop my car from leaking oil?
An oil sender that is leaking is real easy to spot. The reason the puddle is small is that an oil sender leaks when the engine is running and the oil is under pressure, most of your oil is leaking while you drive. Clean the sender off and start the car. If it is the sender you should start to see oil starting to appear almost immediately. How to stop my car from leaking oil?
a product on the market thats real good is called Bar's leaks

    check out the link below
yes the oil sending unit is probualy wore out and stopped up.prob.need a new 1
If your mechanic is right it usually is fairly easy to fix. It honestly is impossible to know where it is leaking from without looking at your car - but I would say that the mechanic is probably right. It would be a good idea to replace the sending unit sometime in the near future (it could crack more and really pour out the oil). Personally I would pay someone to replace the sending unit instead of doing it myself simply because even though it is easy to replace, it is a job that given what it cost to pay someone, it isn't worth getting that messy and spending that much aggravation on. Also, you are right about it leaking more while you are driving. It really won't leak while the engine is off. It leaks only while the engine is running because that is when the engine is pumping the oil up to the sending unit (so it can measure the oil pressure) and no oil is reaching the sending unit while the engine is off. The engine actually has a pump to pump the oil around inside the engine. The oil you see in your driveway is from what has leaked onto other engine parts while you are driving and simply is draining off of those parts while the car is parked.
10 year old cars, even with minmimal use useally leaks oil. first fix the oil leak it might a gasket set in the engine. then do some preventive maintainance. Like change the oil at evry 4500 instead of 5000 kms. have it checked every 3000 kms for you to detec other future mechanical damages your car might have. it might be more expensive to maintain an older car but if you totally love your car it's the only way spend more for preventive maintenance.
    Replace the oil sending unit.
The mechanic who looked at it said it was the oil sending unit so replace the oil sending unit. It's easy to fix if you know what your doing.
tellm me about it, I have a warped aluminium engine block its warped and I can't do nothing about the slow leak
The oil sending unit is a screw in component, so either the sending unit is damaged (you'll need a special socket for it, and a new one for about $10-15) or the block is damaged (you'll need a new engine, or someone who can perform some expensive surgery to rebuild the threads).

What are the causes of facial and scalp oil? how to stop them?

i get a oily face and scalp... any suggestion would be much appreciated. What are the causes of facial and scalp oil? how to stop them?
I think a lot of people would like the answer to that question. As far as I know, the only way to deal with oil is to wash with a degreasing (made for oily hair or face) soap.

My husband is like that. He cannot go even one day without showering and washing his face, hot water, scrubbing. His hair is dripping with oil if he doesn't wash it every day. What causes this? I don't know. If you find out, please let me know!

    for oily face try

oil blotter - this may sound odd but tobacco rolling papers do a great job of blotting excess oil from your face, without removing makeup. best of all they are available anywhere and very cheap!

    or

Lemon - If you've got an oily face problem, I suggest using lemons. Cut a lemon in half or into quarters (depending on your liking), and rub the slices on your face for about a good five minutes. Make sure to close your eyes when you're rubbing it on your forehead, the juices can leak into your eyes! After rubbing the lemon in, leave it on for another five or ten minutes and then wash off with cold water. You'll feel refreshed and the oil problem will go away. With repeated usage your face will look refreshed.

How do I stop oil fires?

below is a good site that gives you information on this from eHow.com. I hope it helps.

I've heard if you stop washing your face (including water) your skin will stop producing oil. Is that true?

If not, what about Accutane?I've heard if you stop washing your face (including water) your skin will stop producing oil. Is that true?
I have never heard that. The reason that you wash your face is to get rid of the extra oils without drying it out. When you dry it out-it produces more oil causing it to break out. But if you didnt wash your face at all, the more likely thing to happen would be that the oil would build up, and build up then clogg your pores. So you'd proabably end up breaking our really bad, and getting a lot of blackheads. But i dont know your skin.I've heard if you stop washing your face (including water) your skin will stop producing oil. Is that true?
Hmmmm....Isn't the reason for washing to decrease oil production? So, no I would have to say that washing is intended to decrease oil production, and that even if you didn't wash your face your skin would still produce oil.
Not even close to true, as for Accutane it decreases oil production but doesn't stop it completely. Plus it's a very powerful and potentially dangerous drug which shouldn't be taken lightly.
Your skin always is producing oil. Some faces just produce more than others. But I have never heard of this claim.

How to stop my car buring oil?

I've got a '96 Ford Escort that is burning lots of oil. Its only done 65K. Its burning about a litre every 300 miles! I see masses of smoke when it goes over about 4000 rpm, and a little at lower revs. Is there anything can be done? Its got its MOT next week...How to stop my car buring oil?
Without spending money on replacing valve seals ect..

Use a good quality 20/50w engine oil (eg. Castrol High Mileage), Ford engines often respond well to this.

Don't use a synthetic as this will burn a lot quicker.

Also make sure that the breathers are clean (If you can smell oil when using the heater - they are probably blocked.)How to stop my car buring oil?
dont drive it lol den u wont burn oil
I had the same problem with my Golf Mk 1 a few years ago. I had thought it might be the cylinders that had got worn and it would need a re-bore etc. Happily it was the oil seals on the valve guides that needed replacing and was nowhere near as expensive. Let's hope that's all yours is, but you need to get it fixed anyway, for the sake of the poor sod driving behind you and your own embarrassment, not to mention the cost of the oil.
needs a ring job. ford's are infamous for that at high mileage
Tom: has you replaced oil seals? well the problem is worn out ';O'; rings on those pistions Because if that serrious

better take car in to dealer's garage we reccomend so all needed

    parts replaced only!
You need new pisten rings fitting, oil is getting past the worn rings into the combustion chamber and being burnt making the smoke. It could be an expensive job.
    JUNK IT!
    Try changing the PCV valve..
Junk it out, sell off the good parts. Tell consumers engine does burn oil.

    Buy a newer car!

Burning oil in the long run hurts your wallet!

Take it to a local Car Max they do trades and buy your older car.
In your left part as u look at the Yahoo!Answers is written : Categories; go down, u will see Buying %26amp; Selling, choose Selling; good luck !
Try 20-50W, or straight 40W just for the MOT. Don't leave it in in cold weather. All the additives just add some gum and make cold starts harder. It sounds like the rings are knackered, and that is not cheap. If you run a heavier oil, make sure that the battery is fully charged (maybe buy a new one) because it will draw more current to start (check alternator as well, and voltage regulator). Cold weather places higher demand on batteries at any rate. You might try Casite Motor Honey to get by the MOT. New plugs will help, gapped correctly with gauges, or at least clean the old ones to bright metal (wire brush, sand paper may leave grit). You could try Duralube with your oil change, it coats the engine with a slippery layer and may tighten the tolerances a bit. It does increase mileage.
it could be bad valve seals.oil is leaking pass the guides and getting on the valves and smoking.
You have used a wrong oil.

    Pl consult your car mechanic.
go to your mechenic and get a valve job done on your car and the rest of your engine checked out for other problems.
sounds like you have serious trouble. do a compression test to see it falls into the acceptable range. if this reveals nothing, do a leak-down test. since you probably don't possess either tool to perform such a test i would recommend letting a shop have a look at it. it should be an easy diagnosis for a qualified tech.
Engine overhaul or a new engine. There are chemicals but they are more of a waste of money than anything.
Someone may have ';rolled-back'; the odometer. U definately need a replacement of the rings on the cylinders. In bad financial shape? Try some Motor Medic or another brand to stop it for a while. That will help U for a while. Good luck. Charles
There is no easy solution to this engine burning oil. The thing to do is get it rebuilt or replaced. There is NO other solution which will pass an emissions test (which is what i suppose MOT is).

That said, oil has to be getting into the combustion chamber to get burned and come out as smoke in the exhaust. There are 3 possible sources, rings, valves and head gasket. Rings wear, and if you let it go low on oil or went long periods without an oil change, rings can wear enough to let oil from the crankcase get by as the piston is on the intake stroke. A compression test will tell you if it is rings as the compression will be low on one or more cylinders. Valves are a bit difficult since a compression test checks how well the valves seal to the head, but not if oil is running down the valve stem from a bad seal above the seating surface. You will have oil fouling on a single plug if it is a valve guide and compression will be in line with normal wear. Last, the head gasket, but you will have other problems if this is the case, like overheating because of exhaust getting into the coolant, Again, if the break in the head gasket is located where oil is channeled to the head, it may suck in oil on the intake stroke, but then you might notice the crankcase being pressurized by oil leaking out of other parts of the engine, most likely the front and rear seals of the crankshaft. When exhaust gets into the crankcase, two things tend to happen, overheating and oil coming out of places it shouldn't. All cars since the 70's have had positive crankcase ventilation (PCV), air is sucked out of the crankcase into the intake manifold to burn oil vapor and the leakage around the rings which normally happens. If this PCV system is overloaded or simply not working, the crankcase works under pressure instead of a vacuum, and that is what makes oil leak out of strange places. The PCV system may be the method why oil is getting intot he intake air, but that is because of another problem. The PCV system is doing the job, but there is too much to handle without obvious smoke. Come to think of it, if you over fill the crankcase with oil, the PCV system will act to channel the excess into the intake air, which MIGHT actually be your problem. Are you SURE you are in fact properly filling the crankcase? A friend a while back had a problem when someone stole the dipstick from his truck. (Why would someone steal a dipstick???) He thought he got an exact replacement, but he didn't, and it caused him to overfiill, which caused the oil to foam and leak out the valve covers. It took a long time to figure out the dipstick was the root problem.
have it checked thoroughly by a mechanic that you trust. If something is smoking it usually means the well is dry or the oil has spilled onto something under the hood that heats up. Ok, so maybe there's a leak somewhere, something isn't airtight, or maybe some heater guage has gone bad.
sounds like the piston rings have gone, cheaper to sell it on and get something else, it'll fail its MOT as well as the emissions will be too high
    get a new car!!!
You can use a heavier oil like 50 or 60.
WELL THE ANS IS JUST SO SIMPLE..DIDNT U GET TO IT EARLIER,...?..';STOP DRIVIN UR CAR !';..PRETTY MUCH HUH..!
Its quite common for the valve guide rubbers to be u/s not cheap but get a price from a garage
Can't say i agree with the person who said Fords are notorious for eating piston rings... Ford usually have a name for building bullet-proof engines that will run on any amount of mis-treatment. Take a look at any Ka full of BeanyBabies driven by a girl...

I stripped a 144,000mile '94 2.0 Zetec for use in my kit car. Bought new rings, full set of gaskets, the works. Measured the new rings against the old ones, and couldn't tell the difference! Crusty old valve stem seals is the more likely problem, assuming the car has had regular oil and filter changes. These are cheap enough to replace and apparently can be done with the head on the car - you need to use compressed air in the cylinder to hold the valves shut when you take the springs off. The stem seals that came off mine were b*ggered! Oh, and the dude who I bought the car off said he'd run it for two years and done nothing to it. When I stripped out the dangly bits I discovered it had no air filter!!! For 2 years!?!? Head wasn't damaged tho and the valves live to fight a few more miles yet. Sounds pretty bullet proof to me!

Good luck fella, hope you get your MOT
    Stop driving it.
My truck once did this, before I sold it. I just lived with it, sadly,
Well if it is burning that much oil, It is time to replace the motor.

65000 is not a lot of miles for a car, it seems funny that ir should be worn out that fast.

Is it possable that someone poured dirt into the engine? Piston rings last a lot longer then that. Unless you really have a bad air filter.

Run a compression test and see what the compression is.

It is also passable that the engine is not breathing right, and has a bad PCV valve.
    overhaull the engine
It's either valve seals or piston rings. If you've taken care of the car then it's probably not the rings, so it's probably the valves, they may need new springs. In fact, re-reading your post, I'd say it's definitely the valves. (Why are you going over 4000 rpms!?!) A valve job can be pricey, but it's going to be cheaper than buying a whole new car.

Your mechanic should check the compression of the cylinders, that should determine pretty quickly if your rings are gone. If they are, then you could be looking at a lot of money because your cylinders may need to be rebored and you'll have to buy oversized pistons.

If your valves are not sealing completely, it may not be that bad. That's where I would focus.
by selling it to a business that crushes cars, your smoking problem will come to a glorious end...
