How to stop oil pastles smudging while working on a piece?

ThanksHow to stop oil pastles smudging while working on a piece?
There are workable fixatives, which work better for charcoals than pastels, but you could give it a try. The only real solution is to try to stop resting your hand on your drawing. When my students work with oil pastes, I tell them to do the big areas first and save the small details for the end because there's a big change that it's going to smear. I also recommend they work top to bottom when coloring in big areas or backgrounds because this reduces the probability of raking their hands through the oils. When their drawings are done, I hang them up right away to keep them from smudging. How to stop oil pastles smudging while working on a piece?
The question doesnt make sense to me - I guess you have to say what kind of work you are aiming at. eg: I suspect it sounds like representational painting (ultra representational) and that you are trying to ';get it right';. You could try working carefully with your hands resting ov tissue paper. You could let it dry (like oil paint it takes a day or 2) or

You could USE the process to add to the painterly quality of your work. Pastels are wonderful (oil or chalk) as like oil paint, you can blend, rub, ';smudge';, build heights/ texture etc
