Would a heavier motor oil stop a tapping in the engine?

could be a flat lifter if it is you may want to put 10w30 in it and let it idle for awhile if it goes away your all setWould a heavier motor oil stop a tapping in the engine?
No, not until you replace the motor, then it will stop.Would a heavier motor oil stop a tapping in the engine?
Not likely. The tapping is usually where the exhaust is exiting the motor so the oil doesn't come into play there. Depending on the type of vehicle, you may be able to adjust the valves to the right clearance to stop this. Mainly on older models. Some additives will advertise that they remove carbon build-up. Whether any of the work or not, I can't say.
Heavier oil could stop the engine. All of the engine! It is not a good idea to use a heavier engine oil but the one specified by the manufacturer.

Do not replace the engine. As a first solution, use an oil additive.

If not, the engine needs timing

If this is an old engine, carbon deposits may be in the combustion chambers. You need to de-carbon the engine. Meanwhile, use premium gas (I'm sorry) and/or a fuel additive for increasing the octane level
It really depends what the tapping is, if there's some slight valve chatter or lifter clacking or whatever you might luck out stepping up 5 or 10w over factory recommended stuff, but if there's pinging or something else making the noise it won't do anything.
